The Feast of the Nativity of the blessed Virgin Mary is a great celebration next to the birth of Jesus Christ. The people have great devotion to the blessed Virgin Mary as she is the source of hope for people in time of need as we see her presence at the wedding of Cana. The traditional date of the Feast, September 8, falls exactly nine months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. In some of the countries this feast is celebrated with great devotion.
Birthday celebrations bring happiness to the celebrant as well as to family and friends. Next to the birth of Jesus, Mary’s birth offers the greatest possible happiness to the world. Each time we celebrate her birth, we can confidently hope for an increase of peace in our hearts and in the world at large. The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary heralds the beginning of a New Era. Just like the brightness of a morning sky announces the coming of a glorious sun, so the birth of Our Lady begins to shine a new light in the history of Salvation that gradually guides our journey towards the source of Light, the incarnated Son of God. We are well aware from our daily experience that a mother’s love is irreplaceable, so do we realize how much we owe to her for all the sacrifices she makes to see us thrive in our lives? It is therefore very natural that we express our devotion to our spiritual mother on this Feast of Her Nativity. We desire and ask her to accompany us in these turbulent times and guide our voyage across these troubled seas as she herself sailed this journey at the foot of the cross.
